8 reasons being a baby sucks!

Looking after a baby is tough, they are pretty demanding and we spend most of our time catering to their needs while being sleep deprived, looking dishevelled and dont get me started on when I last had a hot cup of tea!

So I often look at my baby and think – man, you have it so easy! Yes he’s got a lot of crazy new things to deal with – teething, weaning, growth spurts and the wide world in general, but he gets carried about, has everything done for him and has people at his beck and call 24/7, always there with a cuddle or a boob! However, after a bit further thought about it I have realised there are plenty of reasons why being baby and not mum is not all its cracked up to be:
1. You will be forced to wear really stupid outfits

Parents, friends and relatives absolutely LOVE to dress you up. As much as possible. In the stupidest looking things. And they will be taking photographic evidence. Be warned, those will reappear at 18th birthdays and weddings! You might want to hide when holiday season comes around!

2. Your food is mush

Once you reach a certain age, you will start wanting more than just milk, you will want solid food, and you will look at your mum with her cup of tea and her biscuits/cake/donut (I know, I know, but don’t judge me too harshly, it’s hard work being a mum!) and then you will look at your latest round of mush (green, orange, yellow, it doesn’t matter) and think, why do I get this and you get that?! The injustice Mother!
3. People will discuss your bodily functions

Ok, so you are still pretty little and you haven’t quite gained mastery of your body yet, some things are going to be coming out of either end and you are going to be making some pretty interesting sounds and smells. That is bad enough to cope with, but then mum is going to talk about them to everyone! Colour, size, frequency, its a favourite topic. Mortifying!! Is nothing private?! Also, if you aren’t careful dad will be blaming a few things on you too……

4. People don’t understand what you’re telling them!

You’ve been really clever and rolled over but now you can’t reach your favourite toy anymore, so you are shouting away, and mum and dad are just not getting it. They’ve asked you ‘Awww what’s the matter’ and so you’ve told them, several times, as loudly as you can, but they don’t seem to understand. Instead they’ve picked you up, changed you, fed you and danced about for you. That isn’t what you asked for! These big people aren’t very smart!

5. Too much Kissing and Cuddling and Squashing

Your Great Aunty is popping in to see you and that means only one thing – squishy cuddles. You know that you’re going to be passed backwards and forwards and kissed and squished for the next hour, Eugh! It’s bad enough when mummy insists on doing it, but at least she feeds you, this one is just suffocating you with her stinky perfume and covering you in her lippy!
6. Constantly being told no

Now that you are on the go, you just want to be adventurous and try new things out, but you just keep getting told no! No, don’t put that cord in your mouth. No, don’t roll over off the change mat. No, don’t fling that purée at mummy….. How’s a kid meant to have any fun?!

7. All those straps!

First you are put in a highchair with straps, then you are moved and strapped into a car seat, then into a buggy with guess what, more straps, and then you are back into your car seat restraints!! You just want to be free to roam! If you could you would be shouting FREEDOM like you are William Wallce (maybe without the dodgy Mel Gibson accent….)

8. Cot prison!

As mentioned above, you aren’t a fan of being pinned down, and you aren’t a fan of being put in a cage either. Why has mum put you in this prison with its bars? No no, you are much happier in bed with her thank you! Better just pipe up and let her know…………………

What things do you think are great or really rather rubbish about being a baby?!

This was so nice to read! I am a first time mom and my little one turned a year old two weeks ago. I was thinking today about what it is like to be a baby (he has a cold and has been crying a lot). Then I came across this post which put a smile on my face. Number 6 is a big one in our house now as he has started walking on his own, lol. A great post. #fortheloveofblog

Eek! Yes, I think we have a bit more babyproofing to do before he gets to that stage! Thanks for the nice comment, and hope your little one feels better soon 🙂

Ha, ha, when you put it like that I can see why it make not be so much fun being a little baby that doesnt have much control over anything. Ill have to try and remember that when I am struggling through night feeds in the next few weeks/months! 😉 Thanks for linking this up to #MarvMondays. Emily

I’m so guilty of this- the outfits, haha I dressed my little lord up in a superman costume, with cape. It really cracked me up when he put one arm out (by total coincidence) he was probably only 8 weeks at the time. The straps, my son now tries to eat at any opportunity. I’m convinced he thinks he’ll bite his way free even though he’s toothless. Top marks for trying though! This post made me laugh x

    • MyLittleYarnBaby June 14, 2016 / 9:21 pm

Well, wheres the fun if you cant dress up a helpless baby 😀
Oh yes, my little one is the same with straps, they are always soaked by the time we take him out!

I remember joking that being a baby is the good life. But, I can see your point here, now I think the good life might be around age 8! This was a cute and fun post, you had me giggling. #dreamteam

  7. This Mum's Life June 15, 2016 / 6:58 am

Hehe, a brilliant list!! I love the reindeer outfit picture! We put our eldest in a very similar one (he was born 10 days before Christmas, he absolutely had to be put in one!!) and yes, photographic evidence will be arising at future birthdays!! I’ve often thought that life being a baby is easy, but when you think about it, not being able to communicate, and never knowing what the heck is going on, must be absolutely terrifying!!!! For mine, I always felt really sorry for them when they arrived at the Drs, all cuddled up, snugly, probably snoozing, just learning to trust that you would never ever hurt them, to have a load of needles shoved in them!!!!! How hideous must that be for them?!!

    • MyLittleYarnBaby June 15, 2016 / 5:40 pm

Ha ha, yes Freddies Bday is 9 Dec so a christmas outfit was a must! I love this Reindeer one, and he also had a pudding one 😀
Oh yes, I swear he started looking at me funny by the 3rd time we went for injections…..like he knew…..

  8. Lizzie firstooth June 16, 2016 / 6:21 pm

My baby had the same reindeer outfit. They may cringe at it but they look too cute to not! Poor little bubbas! Did make me laugh #marvmondays

Haha loved this! Such a unique slant on it and I love that when reading blogs. So true, I bet my little girl is thinking stop bloody kissing me woman! Your blog is looking really lovely by the way! Thanks for sharing with us on #fortheloveofBLOG

    • MyLittleYarnBaby June 17, 2016 / 8:36 am

Ahh thank you 🙂 Its getting there, still a little tweaking to do. Working on the shop add on at the moment! x

I think this a lovely, humorous way of putting things into a different perspective…new mums can find things so difficult but this reminds me that our little ones are a person too with needs and feelings…I would not want to have to have to do a number two in my knickers constantly or be surrounded by giant fluffy bears that are twice the size of me! I dressed my son up in a little pumpkin outfit..and a kitten and a penguin…so unkind!#fortheloveofblog

  11. Mrs Lighty June 17, 2016 / 10:09 pm

Numbers 4 & 6 are so my little boy at the moment!! Today he got annoyed with me because I thought (judging by his hand actions – he’s only just turned one) he wanted me to sing Incy Wincy…turns out he wanted Row, Row, Row your Boat!! 😳 We should give these babies more credit!! Thanks for sharing with #fortheloveofBLOG 🙂

Hehe I hadn’t thought of it that way. Though on the plus side you get to lounge around all day with food and drink at your beck and call. Thank you for linking up to the #DreamTeam

This is so true! They have hard lives! Though novelty Christmas outfits never suck, in my opinion! #MarvMondays
